Arrival

The arrival is a short film directed by Daniel Montanarini. It was funded through kick starter. It is a monologue about the internal struggle of a women deciding whether to keep her baby or not.

Representation
This short has a stereotypical representation of women. Represents her as caring and mercurial.
Micro elements
Lighting - changes half way through - represents change in attitude
Tracking Shot - all one take
Shot on the Arri Amira with a Zeiss 32mm Ultra Prime
Possible inspiration?
Simple narrative & use of only a few actors creates a logistically simpler  short - instead focuses on inner emotions.
Lighting used effectively & tracking

I feel that although this type of short is easier and logistically more practical; I didn't find it as engaging or interesting as some of the other shorts that I've watched. This might be because personally I couldn't relate to the women or it could be to do with the lack of activity/action.

  1. Did you like this short? Would you consider writing something in this style?

  2. I think it has an interesting concept however practically I think it would be very difficult. I also think it would be difficult to convey understanding of narrative conventions to the exam board
